Enfield Lock History
Building Stronger Connections in Enfield Lock
Community groups are at the heart of Enfield Lock, bringing people together, supporting local residents, and helping create a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant neighbourhood. From volunteer organisations and resident associations to sports clubs, faith groups, and youth programmes, these groups play an essential role in improving the quality of life for everyone in our community.
The Importance of Community
The land on which Enfield Island Village now stands has a remarkable history. For nearly two centuries, it was home to the Royal Small Arms Factory, one of Britain’s most important manufacturing sites. Established in the early 19th century, the factory produced firearms for the British Armed Forces and became internationally recognised for its engineering innovation and skilled craftsmanship. Following the factory’s closure, the site underwent extensive regeneration, creating the modern residential development that exists today while preserving elements of its historic character.
